3 Tips for Decorating for the Holiday Season

Decorating for the holiday season can be daunting. Do you decorate for autumn? Or do you decorate for the holidays in autumn? Do you decorate for winter? Or do you decorate for the holidays in winter? With so much to celebrate in the months of October through December, the difference in décor and amount of décor might initially feel overwhelming, but we are confident that these 3 tips for decorating in the holiday season will make you feel prepared!
1. Wreaths
Wreaths are probably the easiest way to decorate because they add a welcoming feeling to the home without you having to decorate the whole place! And with all of the holidays, all you really need is a good hook for the door and two wreaths. For hooks, you can pick from an over-the-door hook or a simple hook that sticks to the door like Command hooks. As for your wreaths, simply pick a fall themed wreath that has beautiful burnt orange and deep rust colors that correspond with the leaves in the trees. Your next wreath should have more of a winter theme! You can get a wreath with wooden features that also show some green like pine or holly. While you can absolutely buy these wreaths at almost any commercial store for homes, you can also make your own! 2. Candles
Scents may not be a physical decoration people can look at and admire, but there is so much scientific evidence that shows humans equate smells to memories. Because of this, having a candle burning in your home make the feeling of the holidays that much more real! Finding a scent that you associate with autumn will be the perfect complement to other décor in your home. Something so special about fall is the smell of the crisp leaves and the smell of bonfires. Filling your home with a smell similar to these is a sure way to make your home inviting! For winter, many people put up pine trees in their homes. While that’s definitely a statement piece of décor, sometimes the trees are fake, or the real ones are too high maintenance. This is where your next candle comes in! Burning a candle that smells like woods or pine gives the familiar feeling of holiday season without the mess of pine needles all over the floor.
3. Table Tray
Table pieces can be slightly intimidating because it’s easy to overdo the amount you have on your table and it ends up looking cluttered. If done correctly, though, you will have good looking table décor! The first thing you need to determine is which table you want these decorative items to sit. If you’re decorating the coffee table in your living area, you won’t need as much supplies. If you choose to decorate the dining table, the tray used to decorate will need to be a bit larger than what you would have on a coffee table. Because a coffee table is a multifunctional piece in a living room, your décor will need to accommodate the space needed for puzzles or coffee mugs. For autumn, getting small pumpkins from the dollar store or pinecones from outside will start this table tray off well. For winter, fill your tray with more greenery like small evergreen branches, pinecones, or even artificial red berries. Mix and match your items by color and size to give some dimension to the piece! If decorating a table tray for a coffee table, putting a seasonal candle on the tray is an easy addition. However, if decorating a dining table, use décor that is scentless so that it doesn’t compete with the smell of meals set out on the table. Target and Wayfair have great tray options for both a coffee table and a dining table.
As we enter into the holiday season, we hope these tips and tricks take away the stress of trying to decorate on top of planning and buying gifts. Whether you’re hosting some family or doing Zoom with friends, your home will look put together and fit for autumn and winter!
